My name's Dana Dunn. I've been working in the piercing business going on 6 years now. I do typically about 3,000 to 4,000 a year. I work at Pins and Needles Tattoo. We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I'm going to talk to you about body piercing. Tongue piercing it's a really really simple and pain-free piercing. It does swell up. There are a lot of myths out there about tongue piercing. Again, saying it can destroy your teeth - it'll have affect on the enamel of your teeth and all this. As long as you do not play with your tongue ring all that much, you really won't have a problem with it. It's done directly in the center of your tongue. Usually about an inch to an inch in a half towards the back. It's done with a longer bar at first because it does swell up. It tends to swell for about two weeks. Icing of the tongue is the most important thing to do especially in the first four or five days. You just want to eat ice cubes as much as you can cause it will just be a lot more comfortable for you...and then a mouth wash. Just keep mouthwash with you. Mouthwash whenever you eat, drink, or smoke. Smoking, you really want to cut back,if you do, as much as you possibly can. You really shouldn't but again, we all have our vices and if you can't, just keep some mouthwash with you and rinse it really really well.
